Cancer Charity Fundraising Links

Several Rainow Church members have had their lives touched by cancer over the years. If you'd like to donate, we have a few worthy cancer charities that are currently being fundraised for...

M & Sophie for Walk the Walk

Next weekend, (20/21 May) Sophie and M are doing the Moonwalk in London (26.2 miles through the night in fancy dress!) to raise money for Walk the Walk, who fund cancer research and screening programmes.

From M and Sophie:

"Please could you consider sponsoring us? Even £2 would be really helpful for this fantastic charity and boost us for this big challenge!

"Last weekend, we did our final training walk from home to Ikea in Ashton-under-Lyne to buy food clips!"

Lorna's friend, Ulrike, for Cancer Research UK

Ulrike and her daughter, Erin, are doing the 5k Pretty Muddy course in aid of Cancer Research UK on 1st July in Heaton Park.

From Ulrike & Erin:

"7 years ago, a group of parents all met through their children starting in Mrs Tomlinson’s Reception class at St Michael’s Primary School in Flixton, Manchester. Within that first year, one of the mums, Nat, was diagnosed with a rare liver cancer and passed away suddenly after diagnosis. Now our little Reception children are in Year 6 and will be leaving St Michael’s in July to go to secondary school. We thought a fitting tribute to remember Billy’s beautiful mum would be for the staff and Year 6 parents of St Michael’s to run one last Pretty Muddy race to raise money for CRUK in Nat’s memory.

"Erin and I are also running for our beautiful friend Lorna who has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Too many people are affected by this horrible disease. In memory of Nat, in the fight for Lorna and all our loved ones affected by cancer, let’s do this."

M's friends, Sarah & Jeremy for The Christie Hospital

Jeremy and Sarah are doing the Spanish three peaks challenge in September for The Christie Hospital, which involves climbing the three largest peaks in Spain in three days, carrying 20kg packs over 48km distance.

From Sarah & Jeremy:

"We'd love to think you could help, by making a donation of any size.

"In return, we commit to climbing 3 unfamiliar mountains in 3 days, sleeping far rougher than usual, and suffering cold showers in the refuge.

"Although we're pretty happy hikers, this will be the first time we have:

  • Attempted 3 days' solid hiking

  • Carried heavy overnight packs the whole distance

  • Slept in a mountain refuge between hikes

"It's quick and easy to donate: JustGiving sends your money directly to the charity, and promises to protect your data.

"A big thanks from us, and on behalf of The Christie, and the NHS."
